چکیده

Geotechnical Engineering is a branch of Civil Engineering which deals with man made materials (concrete, steel, etc) on top of or as inclusions into soils or rocks which are naturally made. The process of interaction between man made materials and the soils and rocks is through methods of construction which is time consuming. A construction process could take a week to several years, through which the materials could change their properties. Specially soils and rock degrade much quicker due to weathering process, stress release (like in excavations), loading process, or drillings and blasting operations. Another aspect to consider is earthquakes which generate a ware of energy propagating from rock beneath the earth toward ground surface which could result in severe damages to the man made infrastructures. These make modeling and simulation of interaction between those materials a complex process.

A Comparison Between Electrical Circuit and Finite Element Modeling Methods for Performance Analysis of a Three-Phase Induction Motor under Voltage Unbalance

Induction motor is the most popular load in the industry, it is very important to study about the effects of voltage quality on induction motor performance. One of the most important voltage quality problems in power system is voltage unbalance. This paper evaluates and compares two methods including finite element method (FEM) and equivalent electrical circuit simulation for investigation ...

A Proposed Modeling Method in Finite Element Slope Stability Analysis

Limit-equilibrium method (LEM) and finite element method (FEM) with strength reduction method (SRM) techniques are the most widely used analysis tools in slope stability assessment. Recently, researchers have reported that both factor of safety (FOS) values and failure surfaces obtained from LEM and FEM are generally in good agreement, except in some particular cases. In this paper, the FOS and...

Determination of settlement trough width and optimization of soil behavior parameters based on the design of experiment method (DOE)

The expansion of the settlement trough is an important factor in the risk assessment of the tunneling induced settlement. The increase of settlement trough requires buildings to be included in the impact zone, which causes damages. This paper conducts estimation of the settlement trough width (STW) using empirical approaches, field measurement data and numerical solutions. The credibility of th...

Interactive Analysis of Space Frame Raft Soil System

This study presents a new approach for physical and material modeling of space frame-raft-soil system. The physical modeling consists of a modified Thimoshenko beam bending element with six degrees of freedom per node to model the beams and columns of the superstructure, a modified Mindlin's plate bending element with five degrees of freedom per node to represent the structural slabs and raft, ...

Vibration Analysis of Circular Single-Layer Graphene Sheet Using Finite Element Method

Graphene sheets are combined of Honeycombs lattice carbon-carbon bonds which have high natural frequencies, high strength, and high conductivity. Due to important applications of the graphene sheets particularly at higher frequencies, the study of their dynamic behavior is important in this frequency range. From Molecular Dynamics (MD) point of view as the dimensions of graphene sheet incline, ...
